Ingredients
2 lbs ground beef (80/20 works well)
2 cups water
1 small onion, very finely chopped (or grated)
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp ketchup
2 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
Instructions
Place the raw ground beef and water in the crockpot. Use a potato masher or whisk to break the meat into a very fine texture.
Stir in the onion, tomato paste, ketchup, mustard, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar (if using).
Cook on LOW for 6–8 hours (or HIGH for 3–4 hours), stirring occasionally if possible.
If the sauce is thinner than you’d like, remove the lid for the last 30–60 minutes to let it reduce.
