Ground Beef & Gravy over Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
For the Ground Beef & Gravy:
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 2 lbs russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ cup warm whole milk
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Salt, to taste
Method:
- Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
- Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and onion and cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking up the beef, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add the garlic and butter. Cook for 1 minute, then sprinkle the flour over the beef. Stir well and cook for another minute.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly. Add the Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens and becomes rich and smooth.
- Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the hot pot. Mash until smooth, then mix in the butter, warm milk, and heavy cream. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Spoon a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes onto each plate and top with the ground beef and rich gravy.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with green beans, corn, or your favorite vegetable.
