Southern Chicken Fried Steak with White Gravy
Main Ingredients
- 4 cube steaks (about 1/3 lb each)
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- Oil for frying
Gravy Ingredients
- 3 tbsp pan drippings
- 3 tbsp flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups milk (for gravy)
- Salt to taste (for gravy)
- Lots of black pepper (for gravy)
Directions
Preheat oil in a frying pan over medium heat until it’s nice and hot.
In one bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Meanwhile, in another bowl, beat the eggs and milk together until well combined.
Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, then dip it into the egg mixture, and coat it again with the flour for that double crunch.
Fry the steaks in the hot oil, cooking until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3–4 minutes per side.
For the gravy, use the pan drippings and whisk in flour, cooking it until golden.
Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps, then season with salt and plenty of black pepper to taste.
Serve the golden fried steaks generously topped with that creamy white gravy and enjoy the true taste of the South!
